Outrage pays when travel grifters cash in
I can’t get over how this one YouTuber I used to watch totally changed lanes. He started out as your typical “passport bro” - a white South African guy bouncing around South America and Southeast Asia, always flexing that “I’m not like other tourists” energy. His whole shtick was hanging with locals, chasing women who clearly weren’t there for the culture, and filming everything for the views. It was already kind of gross if you paid attention, but now he’s dropped even the pretense of being open-minded. These days, he’s full-on right-wing fearbait: hyping up how “dangerous” Europe supposedly is, ranting about countries “collapsing” (like France, lol), and stirring up drama for the far-right crowd who eat up any video blaming “outsiders” for the world’s problems. What really gets me is the way he manipulates his own image. He’ll literally doctor his thumbnails to look whiter, more buff, tweak his beard, all that - even erasing a thumbs-up he gave a guy just to make a situation look shadier. He’s not even subtle about the grift anymore. It’s all about rage and outrage, because that’s what brings the clicks and the revenue, and this dude is clearly chasing the money. And it’s not just him - other travel YouTubers like Bald and Bankrupt pull the same crap. It’s the same formula: sex tourism, exploiting women, never actually caring about the people or places, just mining drama and feeding the same angry, gullible crowd. Honestly, watching him go from chill travel vlogs - even if they were always a bit sketchy in hindsight - to just hustling hate for cash is so depressing. It’s like the mask is off now, and he barely even tries to hide it. The cycle’s always the same: monetize outrage, rake in the profit, and let the actual stories or cultures rot on the side. Just nasty.
