Foreign meddling thrives while voters lose hope

Russian interference in US elections honestly just screams high treason to me. There’s actual proof that Russian money went to certain conservative influencers, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they also paid people to flood online forums - like that AMA where someone admitted they were literally paid to discredit veganism. What blows my mind is that the Russian strategy wasn’t really about getting Americans to vote for Republicans or Democrats, but about making everyone so cynical and divided that people just gave up on voting altogether. That’s exactly what we saw: the last election had a 40:45 split, which shows how badly first-past-the-post let us down. If we had something like ranked-choice voting, actual democracy might have won out, but the politicians who benefit from all this dysfunction are the same ones who’d have to fix it, so nothing changes. Honestly, the founding fathers had plans for dealing with traitors and foreign interference, but now it just feels like we get memes, finger-pointing, and business as usual.
